Egg in the Hole (‘V Eggs’)

Egg in a hole.
Category, , DifficultyBeginner

Whether there is enough to this to consider it a recipe at all is debatable, but it is a really nice snack for when time is short! In the US they call it 'toad in the hole' (they don't have the real thing). In our house, we call them V eggs, because the first time we saw it was in the film 'V for Vendetta'.

Yields1 Serving
Prep Time1 minCook Time5 minsTotal Time6 mins
INGREDIENTS
 2 Eggs.
2 Slice of bread (thick sliced ideally, but medium will do).
 2 tsp Butter.
 Salt and/or pepper to taste.
METHOD
1

Cut a 7cm (diameter). hole in the middle of each slice of bread. Melt the butter in a small frying pan; place the bread in the pan (you can also add the circular bits you cut out of the bread earlier to make little 'fried bread cakes', though these will add to the calories listed).

2

Crack the egg into the holes in the bread. Cook for about 2 minutes over medium heat until the bread is lightly browned. Turn and cook the other side until egg yolk is almost set.

3

Season with salt and pepper.
